Chapel – 4/2/20
Good Morning Chargers! I think you will enjoy this chapel from Mr. Cooper – check it out! đ
STEP 1:
Read Genesis 22:1-3
After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, âAbraham!â And he said, âHere I am.â He said, âTake your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.â So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac.
Itâs so straightforward, we can read right over this without even blinking. Ho-hum, Abraham is going to kill Isaac… but consider it from Abrahamâs point of view⌠âWhat?? You want me to⌠wait Lord, why? Noooo!!â After years of adversity, suffering and waiting for Godâs promises to come true, and now God is seemingly undoing all of it? And things had been going so well…
STEP 2:
Watch the music video âHoly Is The Lordâ by Andrew Peterson (it is NOT the one that you may know by Chris Tomlin). The song is played over scenes from the 1994 movie âAbrahamâ starring Richard Harris (Harry Potter fans know him as the original Dumbledore). Itâs great – donât skip this!
STEP 3:
Reflect
Just as God provided the ram as a sacrificial substitute for Isaac, God provided His own son, Jesus Christ to be our substitute. That sacrifice bridged the gap between God and man. God will never test you by telling you to kill someone (seek professional help if you hear this). But he will call you to step out in faith. He will ask you to do something difficult or uncomfortable – so that He may be glorified. What might he be asking of you? To ask forgiveness of someone youâve wronged? To extend forgiveness and make peace with a friend or family member who has wronged you? To reach out to an acquaintance from school, work, or church who isnât as connected to other people as you are to see how they are doing? To lift up in prayer political leaders who you do not agree with? To let go of a bad and sinful habit that you want to stop anyways? Pray for wisdom to know how you can extend Godâs kingdom here on earth.
STEP 4:
Pray: Dear Lord, You are Holy in all your ways. I will never understand your works – but help me to trust in you. Like Abraham, give me an unwavering faith to do what you would ask of me. When I am scared or anxious about the things of this world, remind me that you gave up everything for me – the life of your son Jesus. Amen
