What defines you? Is it your smarts? Or your athletic ability? Or your looks? Or your singing voice? Or your social skills? Are you a leader? Are you an artist? Are you funny? What shapes your identity?
One reason that this quarantine is so difficult is because we cannot find the same opportunities to show who we are by what we do In this strange time, when we are separated from each other, it is hard to maintain those carefully crafted identities. No one is around to watch us play ball or put on a concert or get recognized for the honor roll. And while it is certainly normal for people to identify themselves by their gifts and abilities, we can see clearly now that those identities do not provide solid ground on which to stand. Especially when things are tough…
The one identity that is firm enough to stand on is this…..you are a child of God. He made you and He paid the ultimate price to buy you back from the consequences of sin – you are twice His! That identity is enough to hold you when life gets difficult, when you are struggling to make sense of things, when you are experiencing more failures than successes.
Praise God that the Great I Am has determined who you are…..and whose you are!
