“Jesus wept.” — John 11:35
Insight
That’s it. Short, to the point. Finding himself at the graveside of a dear friend, seeing the anguish of others he loved all around him, Jesus wept. Some say he wept to show his humanity. It’s more likely he wept because of his humanity. We understand that — it’s a natural response to hardship, pain and loss in our world. And we’re dealing with a great deal of that these days. So, when those emotions come out from down deep and need to get out, just remember, like you and me, Jesus wept. After all, we’re only human.
Prayer
Gracious God,
We’re having a tough time here. We see challenges all around us; we see people we know and love hurting, scared and worried. In fact, that describes each of us, too. The emotions can be overwhelming. You know exactly how that feels since you experienced all the same pain and loss as we do. Calm our fears and wipe away our tears. Refill our emotional energy tanks so that we can serve your people in this time of incredible need. Allow your love for us to empower us, despite our fears and emotions, to claim your strength.
Bless us, protect us, and help us serve.
Amen.
