On September 20th, past, current, and future Chargers celebrated Homecoming with an amazing Grand Tailgate, homecoming parade, football game, and coronation.

Senior Jacob Parker said that the Grand Tailgate was his favorite part of the day. And grand it was! With a record-setting turn-out it was a great celebration of Charger Nation. Kids playing, people chatting, tables full of delicious food, a dozen tents from area churches and schools – and everyone gathered together in support of one thing: Valley Lutheran.

“Homecoming has truly grown into a full-on celebration of the focal point of this ministry: our students. The variety of festivities highlight our current students, excite future students, and welcome back our alumni. Our thanks to all who make it a wonderful event,” commented Director of Advancement Kyle DeWees.

Alumna Anna Keup (VL ‘23) said, “There’s a great community here. I love coming back to visit former teachers and friends who are still here. It’s so great to be back.” Her brother and fellow alumni Jonah Keup (VL ‘21) echoed the sentiment as he described Valley as a family to him.

During the tailgate the parade kicked off with the Charger mascot leading the way. Grade level floats, last year’s Homecoming King Tyeson and Queen Kelly, and this year’s Homecoming Court were all highlighted along the route. 2024 Court members included: Grace Hall, Trey Flood, McKenzie Derusha, Noah Hecht, Olivia Parker, Wheatley Rodammer, Lilly Katenhus, Brady Smith, Graciela Ramos, and Anthony Wojtowicz.

Following the parade was the big Homecoming football game versus Hemlock. The stands were full and the student section was fired up with Charger spirit! After a hard-fought battle, complete with lightning delay, the gold and blue secured an exciting Hoco victory with a score of 19-14!

Congratulations also to newly crowned 2024 Homecoming King Wheatley and Queen Lilly!

Thanks for a great Homecoming, Charger Nation!
