We’re excited to once again offer a variety of summer camps for middle school students this summer! A schedule-at-a-glance is below with detailed camp information to follow. Look for the registration link under the Registration heading!

Detailed Camp Information

 

June 13-16 (Tues. – Fri.)

Band $60*/$70

Information: Provides students an opportunity to work on music fundamentals and technique, as well as participate in valuable summer practice time! Students will have a performance for parents on the last day of camp. (Students with one year of experience will work together for a half hour prior to joining the more experienced students for the rest of the morning.)
Led by: Lindsay Mueller, VLHS Wind Ensemble Director
Sessions:
1 year experience: 9 a.m. – noon
2+ years experience: 9:30 a.m. – noon

Chess Camp  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 6-9th gr.
Time: 10 a.m. -12:15 p.m.
Description: Chess has been called “The Game of Kings.” It has a history over a thousand years old and has been played by most of the great minds throughout history. All skills levels are welcome.
Maximum participants: 20 (minimum 8)
Led by: Kevin Streeter, VLHS Technology Teacher

Football  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 5-8th gr.
Time: 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Led by: Paul Reid, VLHS Football coach

Volleyball  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 7-9th gr.
Time: 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Maximum participants: 36
Led by: Jon Frank, VLHS Volleyball coach

Programming Camp  $60* / $70

Age: Entering 6-9th gr.
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Description: Computers are everywhere and someone has to program them to do the cool things they do. Why not you? Learn the basics of programming from sequence, variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and more.  Scratch will be the programming language used. More advanced programmers are welcome and can be challenged with other options.
Maximum participants: 20 (minimum 8)

JUNE 12, 14, 15, 16 (MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY) *** PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE***

Boys Basketball  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 7-9th gr.
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Maximum participants: 30

June 19-22 (Mon. – Thurs.)

Sports Sampler! $60*/$70

Age: Entering 4-6th
Time: 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Description: Campers will experience four different sports as they rotate daily through sessions of soccer, basketball, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee. Each day is a different sport!

Soccer (co-ed)  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 7-9th gr. (experienced 6th graders may attend with coach approval)
Time: 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Led by: Doug Guenther and Caleb Abraham, VLHS Soccer coaches

Girls Basketball  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 7-9th gr. (experienced 6th graders may attend with coach approval)
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Maximum participants: 30
Led by: Matt Princing, VLHS Basketball coach

Drama.  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 7-9th gr.
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Maximum participants: 20
Description: Your chance to learn about theater–both onstage and behind the scenes! Camp will include basic knowledge of acting technique, stage movement, and character development as well as drama games and interacting with scripts, costumes, and props.
Led by: Jeanette Weilnau, VLHS Drama Department

 

June 26 – June 29 (Mon. – Thurs.)

Baseball  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 5-9th gr.
Time: 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Information: Please bring own glove, bat, and cleats (if you have them) to camp each day.
Led by: Kurt Hofmeister, VLHS Baseball coach

Baking  $70*/$80

Age: Entering 7-8th gr.
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Maximum participants: 12
Led by: Jeanette Weilnau, VLHS teacher

Ultimate Frisbee  $60*/$70

Age: Entering 5-9th gr.
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Led by: Tom Plamondon, Round Table Ultimate coach

Trap Shooting  – Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th ONLY $70*/$80

Age: Entering 7-9th gr.
Time: 3-5:30 p.m.
Maximum participants: 10
Location: Saginaw Field and Stream Club
Description: No prior experience required.  Ammunition is included in the camp fees.  Participants may bring their own shotgun or may use one of the Club’s shotguns during camp.  On the first day we will do safety training, simulator work, and a guided round of trap shooting set on straights.  The second day we will review safety and spend more time on the trap fields.

* Registrations made before May 24, 2023 will receive the early registration rate (indicated with an *). Those who register after this date will be charged the full amount.

Promotions

  • Register by May 24, 2023 to receive the early registration rate!  (Rate is indicated by *)
  • Every 5th camp is free!  Whether for an individual camper or a family, the 5th camp is ‘on us’!  (Simply check the ‘Our 5th camp is free!’ box on the registration form and reduce the camp fees due by the appropriate amount.)

Payment

Payment can be made:

  • online at this link (also provided after confirmation)
  •  by check/cash in the school office.  (Please make check payable to VLHS and include ‘camps’ and your student’s name on the subject line.  Mail to VLHS Summer Programs, 3560 McCarty Road, Saginaw, MI  48603.)

Additional Camp Information

  • T-shirts are guaranteed to campers who register by May 24.
  • A supervised lunch period will be available to campers who are participating in both a morning and afternoon camp.  Campers planning to stay should bring a sack lunch.
  • Please register early as most camps have limited enrollments this year!
  • In the event of day-of cancellation, a notice will be posted at www.vlhs.com and participants will be contacted via the email address provided at registration.
