This past weekend, Valley Lutheran’s Symphonic Band and Golden Voice Choir went on a five day tour of the Midwest. Each night they led a worship service with the theme “His Plan,” based on Jeremiah 29:11-13. Through the service they depicted the fall of man, Christ’s redemption, and the confident hope that God has a plan for everything in our lives.

On Wednesday, March 15, we left Valley and traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana. While we were there, we stopped at Concordia Theological Seminary, where Golden Voice recorded some of their pieces for Lutheran Hour Ministries, to be played for shut ins who are unable to make it to church regularly. That evening we held our first concert at St. Michael Lutheran Church.

The next day we packed up and headed to Wisconsin. On the way to our second church we stopped at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon where we toured the campus and met with the admissions office. That evening we performed for Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Hartford, Wisconsin.

Our third day was probably the most exciting as we had great opportunities to be ‘lights to the world’ as we toured downtown Chicago. We were all living examples of Christ as we represented him, wearing our “tour shirts” designed with a depiction of Christ and our theme Bible verse on them. One of the coolest things that I witnessed on tour happened right in downtown Chicago. Some of us were standing outside waiting for others to finish shopping when two Planned Parenthood representatives started to talk to people on the street. Right then and there we all held hands and prayed for the two workers, the organization as a whole, and for the whole issue of abortion. A few students even went and talked to the representatives. After leaving Chicago we traveled to Lisle, Illinois to perform at Trinity Lutheran Church that evening.

On Saturday we headed back to Michigan. While it was a long ride, we all made it! We worshipped with Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia that evening. Sunday morning was a blessing as we were also able to participate in their morning worship service before heading home for our final concert at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Frankentrost. While we were all exhausted, we completed one final set-up and enjoyed playing and sharing our message with our loved ones. Our homecoming was joyful, though somewhat tearful for the Seniors who will be graduating and therefore not returning for tour next year!

Thank you to all those who made our mission possible, including Mrs. Mueller, Mr. Eschmann, all chaperones, and all the parents who supported their children in representing Christ and shining His light in the world.

Now let me send you out in the same way that Golden Voice sent out all those who attended the services we led:

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
(Old Irish Blessing)
