Hofmeister Announces Retirement

We join in praising and thanking God for Athletic Director and Dean of Students, Kurt Hofmeister, who announced his retirement after 39 years of ministry in Lutheran schools including 17 at Valley Lutheran.

Mr. Hofmeister served as Athletic Director, Dean of Students, baseball coach and Theology teacher at Valley Lutheran. Previously he served at Immanuel Lutheran School - Sebewaing, and Faith Lutheran School in Bay City.

"It is rare to find such concern for the individual that you find in Kurt Hofmeister. That care was clearly based on Kurt's relationship with Jesus Christ and, consequently, permeated the manner in which he carried out all of his duties," describes Dr. John Brandt, Executive Director.

"Kurt's behind the scenes work as Athletic Director and Dean of Students was excellent and contributed much to the quality and learning environment of our school. The attention to detail and commitment to excellence that guided those efforts became clearly visible in the quality of our athletic fields. Under his direction, our "outdoor" athletes competed on some of the best natural playing surfaces around that even gained state-wide recognition."

Kurt's sense of ministry is epitomized by his chapel messages which often included Kurt on the guitar with students playing everything from the blues to bluegrass, all with the intent of sharing Jesus in a different way.

Kurt and his wife, Kay, have two children, Kerry who teaches and coaches in Texas, and Kendra a Junior at VLHS.
