Thankful for...Forgiveness

Brett and I had our eyes on the peanut butter cookies with Reeses Pieces as Family Group chapel began. "Thanksgiving" was the chapel theme and as we snacked each "family member" shared one thing for which they are thankful -

sometimes sweet - my brother
sometimes serious - the health of my family
sometimes expected - 3 days off from school

and then Brett said, "forgiveness." As chapel closed, he turned to me and asked, "Is it unexpected that I am thankful for forgiveness? Each year I try to be thankful for something that we just don't think about." We spent a few more minutes talking. I shared a devotional which explained that we often celebrate grace, without remembering that it is forgiveness that makes grace possible, and forgiveness is the result of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

"Of course, I'm thankful for God's forgiveness." And then Brett added, "And that of parents and friends, too."

And I am thankful for God seating me next to Brett.

May God bless your Thanksgiving with gratitude for the expected and the unexpected.
